before spotify, there was the art of keeping songbirds. choose from a playlist from merbok (spotted dove), pipit (sparrow), merbah kapur (yellow vented bulbul), haji (sharma), belang-belang (flycatcher) or renyah kriket (the sound crickets make as the birds’ lunch).

while this form of aviculture has given way to modern hobbies like making selfies and overhead food shots, a community in ang mo kio is still keeping this tradition alive - and the nearby residents awake.
