singapore held its general election (ge2015) on september 11, 2015. every single seat was contested. every singaporean had a chance to vote.
it was not an election of PAP versus WP.
it was not an election of Lee Hsien Loong versus Chee Soon Juan.
it was an election of people versus the next government.
simply put, singaporeans were choosing the best and most capable people to blame. at least we chose a team who did not give that many opportunities for us to blame.
rally characteristics: always popular. always crowded. always noisy.
rally audience: the same folks who enjoyed korean dramas and violent war movies.
rally characteristics: orderly. almost sterile. plenty of facts and possibilities. attending a pap rally is akin to going to the library. useful but no bragging rights.
rally audience: party members and mainstream press. and some closet supporters who “accidentally” walked into the rally site.
rally characteristics: like the party’s origin of forming through an alliance of four smaller parties - a mixed bag.
rally audience: they came disappointed that their monies was locked in with the cpf, and left the rally resigned to that fate.
rally characteristics: similar to a time-share seminar, sounds like a good deal but couldn’t shake off the skepticism.
rally audience: people who buy lottery tickets on a regular basis and the hopelessly romantics.
rally characteristics: subdued. cosy. homely.
rally audience: the sentimental. they were here just for chiam see tong, really.
rally characteristics: like bruce banner. calm on the surface but with angry undertones. hulk could be unleashed anytime.
rally audience: ex jbj supporters and the politically bitter.
